How Personalised Digital Portraits Work (And Why They Are Meaningful Gifts)
Share
You’ve probably seen them around — those charming custom illustrations that look just like you, but a bit dreamier, more colourful, maybe even holding your favourite record or surrounded by flowers. In fact, the current craze as I write this blog post is turning yourself into a Studio Ghibli-esque portrait.
But what exactly is a personalised digital portrait? And how do they work?
Well, hi! I’m Jun-Yi — I paint people. Not just how they look, but who they are. Whether it’s for someone’s birthday, a long-distance surprise, or a sweet "just because" gift, these custom portraits are more than just pretty pictures — they’re personal stories in watercolour.
Let me walk you through how it all works, and why more and more people are choosing custom portraits as their go-to gift.
What is a personalised digital portrait?
A personalised digital portrait is a hand-painted illustration based on a photo you send me. It’s created digitally, but painted by hand — no AI, no filters. Just me, my iPad, and your story. You can choose to have just yourself, a couple, or your whole family (pets included!).
How do I order one?
It’s simple:
- Choose the number of people on my website.
- Choose to add an art print (or not).
- Upload photos that clearly show the people to be drawn.
- I’ll get painting!
You can receive your portrait digitally, or order it as a professional art print — perfect for gifting or framing.
How long does it take?
For digital portraits, you’ll usually receive the artwork in 3–7 working days. For printed versions, delivery depends on where you are — but if you’re in the Netherlands, delivery is often within the week.
Can I customise the background, outfit or accessories?
Yes — that’s the best part! With fully custom portraits, the sky’s the limit. For themed portraits (like my Record Store Day or Christmas Collection), you can choose from pre-set outfits and scenes, and I’ll personalise your face and features.
Can I make changes?
I always send a preview when I'm finished, and light edits (maybe a tweak to the hairstyle or expression) are possible, to make sure you’re happy before final delivery.
Why do these portraits make great gifts?
Because they feel thoughtful. Anyone can buy flowers. But a custom portrait says: “I saw this, and I thought of you.” It shows you’ve put care into something that’s just theirs — a moment frozen in time, a memory made visual.
